Pregnant in a pandemic
We should have known things wouldn't go as expected in regards to our pregnancy. Getting pregnant was a 5-year rollercoaster ride of hope, fear, frustration, loss, grief, trauma... and above all, constant change!
So, here we are (finally) pregnant – yahoo! – and the world no longer resembles what we'd grown accustomed to nor hoped for when we daydreamed about the second trimester of pregnancy. Scott and I are on Day 23 of lockdown. We're working from home, taking daily walks with Dad, Puppy and Mea... and simply doing the best we can to maintain our sanity and happiness. Like the rest of you, we're playing it by ear and establishing a new sense of normalcy. And what that looks like can vary from day to day... or hour to hour.
If anything, our shared experience of infertility struggles and pregnancy during a pandemic, we've learned patience and the not-as-easy-as-it-sounds practice of letting go. Hopefully, these lessons will carry us through the rest of our lives and into parenthood. I mean, what better way to welcome an infant knowing, I mean really knowing, you have zero control and nothing ever goes to plan?! Just sit back, smell the flowers, and try to enjoy the ride.
Thanks to the encouragement of Stacey, we decided to put this blog together. As many of you know, we were planning to throw a baby shower at the end of May. For obvious reasons, this won't be happening. We wouldn't put anyone's health or safety at risk for a party. With that being said, we are going to miss these rites of passage and events. It isn't so much about the shower itself, but rather celebrating the pending arrival of Wiggles McD with all of you. We know so many of you yearned for this baby too.
We're not sure if we'll be able to get together before Wiggles July/August arrival. With the pandemic, no one can predict the future. Some of you have been asking for information, and we'll use this platform to keep you all informed. We will also share our registry at the bottom of this post.
Our goal is to post weekly and share pregnancy updates, thoughts/feelings, and random photos. Please share this link with anyone we may have missed.
We can't wait to hug each and every one of you in the near future!
