shots!
35 weeks + 2 days... Wiggles could arrive in less than a month! Or, later than that. Babies come when babies come. Any guesses for how long I'll go?!
All in all, we're doing well. We've had some challenges in the last week or so. My fasting levels continued to rise, so I was put on insulin injections before bedtime. Not the end of the world, but also not the funnest bedtime routine. "Hey Scott... ready to inject me again?!" We've adapted to the injection routine already (we're old pros really), but the first injection felt so surreal. Afterwards, I felt like we were stepping back in time to the early days of IVF. I thought we'd put this shit behind us.
Insulin injections are child's play compared to progesterone injections in the ass, so I don't have much to complain about. I'm on a low dose. Insulin doesn't cross the placental barrier. And my fasting/morning glucose levels are lower. Nothing is forever. This too shall pass. I am healthy. Wiggles is healthy.
The added bonus that comes with insulin management for gestational diabetes at UCSD means I have to get NSTs (non-stress tests) twice per week. Basically, I sit in a chair and they strap two monitors to my belly to watch Wiggles' heart rate – they want to see natural fluctuations in Wiggles' heart rate over a 25 - 40 minute timeframe. Afterwards, I get a quick ultrasound to check amniotic fluid levels and Wiggles position.
All has been normal. EXCEPT for Wiggles position. Wiggles is transverse. And if Wiggles doesn't get in the right place before 37 weeks, I'll be booked for an ECV (external cephalic version). We won't dissect that procedure just yet... I'll cross that bridge if and when I need to. In the meantime, I am trying everything I can to get Wiggles in a head down position. Spinning Babies is my #1 most visited website.
I'll try just about anything to get Wiggles head down. If you have any suggestions, please pass them along.
In other news, we also had maternity photos taken a few weeks ago. We got the images back from Kayla (the very talented and sweet photographer who took them), and we're just delighted with them! I almost opted out of maternity shots – they can look so forced and cliché. Kayla created a beautiful atmosphere for Scott and I to be ourselves. We enjoyed the entire process and we're happy to share some of them with the rest of you... enjoy!
