36 weeks + 4 days. 

WHERE HAS THE TIME GONE?!?! It feels like only yesterday we got the positive pregnancy call from the IVF clinic. We'll be meeting Wiggles in a few weeks (give or take) and we just can't believe it sometimes! I still say to Scott, "There's a baby in there!" with shock and incredulity. 

And occasionally I'll catch my reflection in a window or full-length mirror, and I think who in the heck is that VERY PREGNANT woman?! Oh, it's me. 

I had a 36-week growth ultrasound yesterday (UCSD's requirement for gestational diabetes patients) to check-in on Wiggles' development. Wiggles is healthy and looking good. Wiggles is not giant (another concern with gestational diabetes). Wiggles is currently estimated at 7 lbs and the 75th percentile, and measuring about 8 days ahead of gestation. So, not small. But, no giant either. We received positive feedback on all of Wiggles' measurements and my sugar levels. 

Baby Wiggles is cramped... a little yogi! 


They say on average a baby gains about 0.5 lbs per week in the last month of pregnancy... so if Wiggles cooks until 40 weeks, we're looking at an 8.5 lb baby. Yikes!! Maybe Wiggles will come sooner? I was 2 weeks early. I keep telling Wiggles s/he needs to wait until at least 38 weeks, but I don't think I'm in charge. Babies come when babies come. Any thoughts on when Wiggles will arrive?

Everything is ready (mostly). We did a practice drive to the hospital. We're working closely with our doula. The nursery is set-up. Carseat is installed. Bassinet is on the way. Hospital bag is (mostly) packed. We have diapers and wipes and beautiful blankets/sheets/burping cloths from Grammy McDonnell. 

So many of you have been so incredibly generous sending us gifts and gift cards for GrubHub. We are so deeply grateful to each and every one of you. It's been such a challenge to be pregnant during a pandemic – at times we feel very isolated from our community. Your messages, cards, texts, and gifts mean the world to us. Really and truly. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

We're in the flow... looking forward to Wiggles' arrival without anxiety or worry. We're simply excited, but not in a rush either. We're enjoying our time together of just the two of us and daydreaming about what life will look like once Wiggles is earth-side. Personally, I am looking forward to Scott carrying Wiggles for awhile ;-)

38 weeks + 3 days. Maternity leave has officially begun! And now, we wait. And wait. And likely wait longer than we'd like... Oh, and also over-analyze every single novel twinge of a symptom.  Wiggles pending arrival feels both implausible and imminent – I realize these two experiences are contradictory, but as a modern human being, I've evolved to be comfortable with cognitive dissonance. 35 weeks + 2 days... Wiggles could arrive in less than a month! Or, later than that. Babies come when babies come. Any guesses for how long I'll go?! All in all, we're doing well. We've had some challenges in the last week or so. My fasting levels continued to rise, so I was put on insulin injections before bedtime. Not the end of the world, but also not the funnest bedtime routine. "Hey Scott... ready to inject me again?!" We've adapted to the injection routine already (we're old pros really), but the first injection felt so surreal. Afterwards, I felt like we were stepping back in time to the early days of IVF. I thought we'd put this shit behind us.  Insulin injections are child's play compared to progesterone injections in the ass, so I don't have much to complain about. I'm on a low dose. go-grow-go, FaeBae, grow!

My baby is quickly approaching toddlerhood... which in many ways feels impossible. To me, it's like we brought her home from the hospital only yesterday. Time has flown by! Sure, some nights were (read: are) excruciatingly long (I know why sleep deprivation is a form of torture), but overall, it's all happened like THAT (snap fingers).  These last few months have been a total blast. Challenging too – as all parents know too well, raising your first child ain't easy. And hats off to those of you that choose to have more than one. ;-) Farryn has changed exponentially in the last 3 or so months. It's truly miraculous how quickly they go from mewling, dependent newborns to do-it-all-myself, exploring-independence tots. Only a few short months ago, it was a feat of baby strength for Farryn to pull herself up to standing on her toybox. Now, I am lucky if I can get her to stand in front of her toybox for longer than 0.00005 seconds. This kid is on the MOVE.  Cruising all along...
